Tapentadol HCL 100mg Tablets

Tapentadol is used for:

• Moderate to severe acute pain (after surgery, trauma, injury)

• Chronic pain conditions (like musculoskeletal pain, lower back pain)

• Neuropathic pain (nerve-related pain, such as diabetic neuropathy)

Tapentadol works through dual action:

1. Opioid receptor agonist – reduces perception of pain.

2. Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI) – enhances the natural suppression of pain in the central nervous system.

• Usual starting dose: 50–100 mg every 4–6 hours as needed

• Maximum dose for acute pain: 600 mg/day

• For chronic pain: 500 mg/day

Common:

• Nausea, vomiting

• Dizziness, drowsiness, headache

• Constipation

Serious:

• Respiratory depression (slowed breathing)

• Dependence, tolerance, or misuse (opioid-like properties)

• Prescription-only medicine (Rx)

• Risk of addiction and misuse

• Avoid alcohol and sedatives (may increase drowsiness or breathing issues)

• Use cautiously in patients with liver/kidney impairment

• Not suitable for patients with severe respiratory problems

• Should not be stopped suddenly after long-term use (to avoid withdrawal symptoms)

• Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
